Range Rover Sport SVR takes on the Nurburgring – and wins (video)
Wed, 30 Jul 2014Range Rover Sport SVR takes on the Nurburgring – and wins (video) We’re not sure at what point a car actually becomes a ‘production’ car, but that’s a tag Land Rover are putting on the new Range Rover Sport SVR as it takes to the Nurburgring and comes away with a time of 8 minutes 14 seconds – the fastest by a production SUV. Land Rover are keen to tell us the lap by the RRS SVR was in a standard production car, by which we assume a car that’s built to the specification announced for the Sport SVR when it arrives next year. Ferrari 599 GTB 60F1 (2011) first official pictures
Thu, 08 Dec 2011Ferrari is launching a special pack of paint and trim options on the 599, called the 599 GTB 60F1. It's designed to mark six decades of winning in Formula 1 (not something the scuderia has done much of in 2011). Froilan Gonzalez won Ferrari's first F1 race in the 375 F1 car back in July 1951; 60 years later, Fernando Alonso won Ferrari's first race of the current season in the 150° Italia.
Project Car Hell, Air-Cooled Inferno Edition: oval-window Beetle or Type 34 Karmann Ghia?
Tue, 15 Apr 2014Here we are in the Automotive Lake of Fire again, and we feel compelled to follow up a couple of marginal-classic Fiat projects with a pair of indisputable classic Volkswagens. After Ferdinand Porsche appropriated the basic design for the original Beetle from Tatra designer Hans Ledwinka (but before Tatra successfully sued Volkswagen), Volkswagen turned one innovative rear-engined vehicle platform into quite a lineup of cars and trucks. These days, while some types of air-cooled VW projects are cheap and plentiful, the rarer ones are much-sought-after and tough to find in semi-restorable condition.
