Mercedes signs joint venture to build carbonfibre parts

Not to be outdone by BMW’s joint venture with the SGL Group to manufacturer commercially viable carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the electric Megacity Vehicle, Mercedes has announced a joint venture with Japanese company Toray Industries to manufacturer and market its on CFRP automotive parts. The deal was signed in Germany today, with Toray taking a 50.1% stake, Daimler holding 44.9% and the remaining 5% being taken by other shareholders. The two companies started working together in March 2010, and while Toray has been working on the materials and moulding processes, Merc has designed the automotive parts and the technologies to join the parts together.

The 2015 BMW M4 Convertible made its official debut at the New York auto show yesterday. While the details of the high-octane hardtop didn't exactly catch us off-guard (see our full breakdown here), we now know how much it'll cost to feel the wind in your hair as you launch from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds: $73,425, to start. Complete pricing will be available closer to the M4 Convertible's sale date, which is “late summer” 2014, according to BMW.

2012 Lexus GS Undisguised in China (click image for full size) Despite the best efforts of Toyota to keep the 2012 Lexus GS under wraps, they obviously forgot that everyone in China now has a mobile with a camera on it, so up have popped a set of photos of the new GS ahead of the Pebble reveal. Poor old Lexus; they tried so hard. Yes, we had the LF-Gh Concept to base our expectations on (although the reality rarely meets the expectations a concept creates) so we had an idea Lexus were getting a bit bolder with the GS.
