Caterham Supersport R extends Caterham 7 range
Sat, 10 Nov 2012Caterham has added the Supersport R to its range of ’7′ models with a 2.0 litre Duratec Ford engine delivering 180bhp. In the meantime, Caterham’s core road car business is the old Lotus 7 range of Caterhams, so it makes sense to keep that more appealing and relevant until new cars start to arrive, so we get the Caterham Supersport R as an addition to the range to slot in between the Supersport and the Superlight models. The Supersport R gets a Ford Duratec 2.0 litre engine which produces 180bhp, which doesn’t sound a huge amount, but when you consider the Supersport R weighs in at just 535kg it starts to look plenty.
15 must-sees at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed
Thu, 26 Jun 2014There aren't many places in the world where you can get up close to the Audi R18 e-tron Quattro that won this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, but you can at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. If you’re lucky, you might even get to talk to a team member and take a peek inside the cockpit of these incredibly advanced LMP1 prototype endurance racers. As a bonus, look out for its rivals: the hybrid Toyota TS040 and Porsche 919.
Video: Chris Bangle delivers “Empowerment: Design without Designers” talk at Creative Mornings/London
Wed, 09 Nov 2011Chris Bangle – the undisputed front man of car design – needs little introduction, so the prospect of the former BMW Design Director and now founder of Chris Bangle Associates giving a talk in our home town of London was too good to pass up. His presentation (which you can watch in full in the video to the left) touched on his time at BMW, but was more focused on the idea of empowering others to create: "design without you in the middle", as Bangle says. From the story of the co-creation of the staircase in his Italian studio to the idea of encouraging people to think about their culture when designing, his philosophies transcend disciplines.
