Concept Car of the Week: Alfa Romeo Navajo (1976)

In 1976, the space shuttle Enterprise was unveiled, Concorde made its first commercial flight and the Cray supercomputer went into service. These events represent a time when ideas transitioned from science fiction to reality. While significant progress was being demonstrated elsewhere, the motoring world gave us the first Ford Fiesta.

Concept Car of the Week: Mercury El Gato (1970)

Of all the brands that marked American automobile history, Mercury had never been the most popular or the most loved, which ultimately led to its demise in 2011 when Ford chose to terminate the brand. To be fair only a handful of Mercury models are worth remembering: the 1950 Mercury Eight iconic base for custom cars, the 1955 Montclair, the Mustang-based Cougar, the Marauder X-100, the evil Cyclone Spoiler. However one of their coolest creations is fairly unknown mostly due its short concept car life: El Gato, in Spanish translating as "The Cat".

2012 CDN – Opel/Vauxhall Interactive Competition shortlist announced

With a hugely impressive 263 entries in total, the judges of the 2012 Car Design News – Opel/Vauxhall Interactive Competition had an unenviable task ahead of them when they gathered at the firm's head quarters in Russelsheim, Germany on Monday 21 May. Their challenge was to shortlist a number of students to progress to the next stage of the competition. The winner will be announced at the 2012 Paris motorshow.
