Video: Auto Design Night retrospectives

Since its introduction at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, Auto Design Night has established itself as the event for professional designers to meet up and unwind after a hard day at the auto show. Hosted on the evening of the first press day, this informal gathering has already provided hundreds of designers with a stylish, informal venue in which to eat, drink and relax with their peers, as well as providing top-class entertainment and some surprise concept unveils. Concept Car of the Week: Saab Aero X

In January 2005 Bryan Nesbitt, then-executive director of GM Europe Design, charged the 15-strong Saab Advanced design team in Gothenburg, Sweden, to create the "ultimate vision of the brand". The design team – led by head of Advanced Design at Saab, Anthony Lo – worked on a number of sports car proposals, which were considered 'the jet fighters of the road.' The chosen proposal by Alex Daniel was for a large, front-engined sports car that would become one of the most universally acclaimed concept cars of recent times. Of course the Aero X's door arrangement – complete with huge, forward-hinged canopy – is its party trick, but even without the theatrics the car's proportions, surfacing and graphics are exceptional.

Porsche Panamera Shooting Brake Estate Concept at Paris?

It looks like Porsche will be showing a concept estate version of the Panamera at Paris – perhaps the Porsche Panamera Shooting Brake? The rumours that Porsche are preparing an estate version of the Panamera for the Paris Motor Show in September are gathering pace, and it now seems almost certain there will be a Panamera Shooting Brake Concept to upset Porsche purists when the Paris Motor Show opens on 27th September. Although the Panamera Estate Concept is highly probable, it seems likely any production car is some way off – probably 2015 at the earliest – before which we’ll see the Panamera get a facelift (which could arrive at Paris too) and even a Panamera Coupe and convertible on a shortened wheelbase.
