Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R concept stars at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show

Frankfurt 2013 is all about efficiency for Toyota, celebrating 16 years and more than 5.5 million worldwide sales of its hybrid vehicles. So the Japanese firm has gone crazy to applaud its own technical innovation over the years, dropping a 414hp hybrid powertrain into its Yaris supermini this, is the Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R concept. There will NOT be a ‘Super’ LaFerrari after all

Ferrari has been on the phone this morning to explain that the man from Autocar who spoke to LaFerrari’s chief designer, Flavio Manzoni, got hold of entirely the wrong end of the stick when discussing the design elements Ferrari didn’t use on LaFerrari. It seems Manzoni was explaining that during the design process for LaFerrari there were many design elements that couldn’t be included on LaFerrari, but were so good they wanted to keep them for use on future Ferraris. That was seized upon as confirmation that Ferrari were planning a ‘Super’ LaFerrari to sit above the new supercar at an even more extreme price.

McLaren P1 gets 903bhp

McLaren has revealed that their new supercar – the McLaren P1 – will deliver 903bhp and have emissions below 200g/km. The McLaren P1 will get 727bhp from its 3.8 litre V8 with an additional 176bhp coming from an electric motor for a combined power delivery of 903bhp, with the V8 contributing 531lb/ft of torque and the electric motor an instant 192lb/ft for a combined torque of 664lb/ft at 4000rpm. The boost from the electric motor is instantly available at the flick of a button on the steering wheel – McLaren call it Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) – which instantly throws more additional power to aid the McLaren’s V8 than a pair of Fiestas can manage.
