DETAILS
This USB Interface by Grom Audio is a state of the art product that allows you to directly connect your USB thumb drive through the auxiliary input port (normally used for CD Changers and/or satellite radio) of your factory radio. (See more details below.)  The cable that connects this to your radio is a T-harness, so it has a plug to allow you, in most cases, to retain a factory auxiliary input currently connected to the radio. The cable that connects this interface to your USB drive is 3 feet long, so you'll have plenty of routing options.

If you have an Android phone or tablet, you can also use this interface to play music from it through the car radio. Song title, artist and album will display on the radio. You will also have some limited controls from the radio and/or the steering wheel controls. In addition, it will charge the device. You will have to download the free AALinQ App from the Google Play App Market to utilize this feature. You will also need a USB cable to connect the phone to the interface.  (One probably came with your phone.)  PLEASE NOTE: this is for playback of music only.  Calling features are supported using the Bluetooth kit that is included.  We HIGHLY recommend you visit the manufacturer's website if you have questions regarding the Android interface features.

The included BTD Bluetooth Extension Dongle Kit allows you to connect a Bluetooth enabled cell phone that supports HFP (Hands Free Profiles) and listen to the conversation over your car speakers, while speaking through the microphone that comes with the kit.  You can also use it to stream music from your phone wirelessly if your phone supports A2DP.  What's more, you can control the music on your phone from your radio and/or steering wheel controls using AVRCP wireless audio controls, provided your phone supports it.

This product is capable of working in remote CD Changer or satellite mode, making it compatible in a greater variety of vehicles.  Your radio must have a SAT/AUX, XM/AUX or AUX button AND be on the Application or Compatibility List in this ad.  Use of a given mode will require disconnection of a factory device using that same mode.   For instance, if your radio does not have satellite capability but does have remote CD changer control capability, you can use this product but your remote CD changer (separate from the radio) would have to be disconnected, if so equipped.   Likewise, if your radio does not have remote CD changer controls but does have satellite capability, this will work in satellite mode but would require disconnection of your factory satellite system, if so equipped.  If your radio is capable of both modes and you do not have both a remote CD Changer AND a satellite tuner attached, this will typically operate in the mode for the option that isn't present, which usually allows the other factory device to continue operating.  We recommend you visit the gromaudio website (and/or contact Tech Support) to determine exactly how it's going to function in your vehicle with your options.

You have to follow certain naming conventions for folders and tracks you place on the USB drive in order for them to be recognized properly. We recommend you visit the GromAudio website if you have additional questions about capabilities and functionality. We're an authorized retailer but they're the manufacturer, so they're in the best position to advertise capabilities and functionality. Among other things, they have a Support/FAQ link on their site that contains useful information.

OPTIONAL CABLE INFORMATION

Unlike some competitor's products, this interface includes an extra input port so you can add an iPod.  This cable is available in a separate eBay listing.
With this optional GAIPDCBL iPod cable, you can charge, listen to and control some iPod functions through the radio. Since the iPod port is dedicated, you can have the iPod and USB connected at the same time. You can also have either the Bluetooth or Aux cable hooked up too.  The iPod cable has a proprietary Grom connector on the end that plugs in the interface, so you do need to use the Grom cable if you wish to add iPod functionality.  (You cannot use the USB port to plug in your iPod cable.)  We recommend you visit the gromaudio website (and/or contact tech support) to determine exactly how it's going to function in your vehicle with your options.

SHIPPING & HANDLING

¤ Shipping cost is based on the weight of the item and your zip code.  Ebay's shipping calculator does the figuring, not us.  For US orders, we include a modest $.50 handling fee to cover packaging.  If you feel the eBay shipping calculation is high, you might be underestimating the package weight and/or current shipping costs from our zip code to yours.  Please don't ding us for shipping cost in the ratings, as we have no control over ever-increasing carrier rates.

¤ These kits are sometimes shipped directly from the manufacturer.

Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell – First prototype

Tue, 22 Jun 2010

The subtly painted Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell Prototype We called it the Mercedes SLS AMG eDrive when we first talked about an electric SLS Gullwing last year. Although to be fair that’s what Mercedes called it when they gave us some info and confirmed they were working on creating an electric version of the SLS. But it now appears to have become the Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell Prototype.

CCS receives $2.5m GM Grant

Tue, 28 Jun 2011

General Motors is set to strengthen its longstanding commitment to Detroit's College for Creative Studies with a $2.5 million donation, a contribution that will help the university undertake a $145 million redevelopment of its A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education. This is not the first time that GM has given to CCS – the ongoing relationship between them sees members of the GM design team teach and mentor students, while CCS also receives loans of industrial equipment from its Detroit neighbor.

Peugeot 407 Coupe HDi 163 Review & Road Test (2010) Part 2

Tue, 03 Aug 2010

Peugeot 407 Review & Road Test Part 2 Somehow this old-fashioned Coupe is ticking all the right boxes. It looks good, it goes well enough and it handles sufficiently well for you not to notice the progress you’re making; always a good sign. It also seems to be very well bolted together.
