Hello, I have a clean set of GM original hood hinges that I removed from a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. This Eldorado is located in the southern California Mohave Desert where it has experienced very little weather, extremely low humidity, and no salted roads. Consequently this 40 year-old set has survived in nice condition. Both springs are the original GM springs and are still very strong as the hood lifted with minimal effort and held up firmly in place. Much of the original factory gray paint is still present however there visible areas of rust especially on the two large arms that mount to the hood. There are no cracks in the castings and both hinges are factory stamped #4200. On the driver side hinge all the rivets are tight, however on the passenger side hinge one of the rivets on the large mounting plate has a significant amount of play and should be tightened or replaced in the very near term (see picture #2). I've discounted the asking price of this nice set due to this loose rivet.  My Hollander Interchange Manual (referred to as "The Bible" in the wrecking industry) states this set is correct for and will fit the below Cadillacs. As a "picker" I have removed and sold hood hinges from each of the models below so I can guarantee the fitment of this set of hinges. Hollander interchange number for this set is #298. Thanks, Don

Jaguar XE / Jaguar F-Type spied

Thu, 23 Jun 2011

Jaguar XE Spied - looking like a chopped XK To be honest, we don’t even know now whether Jaguar will call their new, smaller sports car the Jaguar XE or Jaguar F-Type, as there’s talk of them ditching the iconic Jaguar badging in favour of a Germanic numbers-based moniker across the range. But whatever Jaguar do finally decide to call their new small sports car, we know it’s officially in the planning and has been for more than a year. And now it’s out playing, albeit wrapped up in a chopped XK.

Volkswagen debuts Jetta TDI Value Edition

Thu, 09 Jan 2014

There was already a lot to like about the diesel Volkswagen Jetta TDI CleanDiesel, most of it having to do with fewer fillups, and so for 2014 Volkswagen is debuting a new Jetta TDI Value Edition that slices more than $2,000 off the price of entry. And speaking of the price of entry, it is now $22,115 for Volkswagen's smallest diesel sedan in the U.S. Yes, it seems Volkswagen has finally created a car for automotive journalists as well as members of the biodiesel-brewing crowd who are tired of fixing old Mercedes-Benz W123 station wagons from the 1970s, though we probably have the diesel Chevrolet Cruze to thank for the appearance of this particular model.

CCS- American Iron and Steel Institute Challenge 2005

Tue, 15 Nov 2005

Transportation Design students from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit recently presented projects done in conjunction with the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Three students were selected from the college to complete an internship: Chris Piscitelli, Sylvian Bryan and Sang Hoon Shin. They took on the challenge to design a 'functional, innovative and extreme-inspired vehicle that integrates environmental responsibility, cost efficiency and advanced steel materials.' Aside from the peripheral criteria, it is the 'extreme' theme that sticks, the brief satisfyingly encouraging students to really provoke with their imaginations. With the Challenge now in its 17th year, AISI puts its considerable resources to good use, Piscitelli, Bryan and Shin each receiving much support during their internship program, which includes producing scale models of their designs.
