Custom Truck Presets

PHP Chip TunerThe Hydra Chip includes 17 total memory slots for tuning presets (15 tuning presets, NO START, and MODULE BYPASS) to get the most performance and efficiency out of your truck no matter where or how you are driving! On the old, 6-position knob-style chip, you could never tell what preset you were running unless you counted the knob's clicks. On the new Hydra Chip, you can always see what tuning program you are running with its convenient LED switchbox. Using the up and down buttons on the switchbox, you can change your tuning preset on the fly.

When you purchase the Hydra Chip, you will have the ability to load 15 specific tunes for your truck make/year. The Software program is a FREE download. This Download will allow access to the complete inventory of PHP Standard 7.3L Tunes all at no additional charge. The USB connection on the Hydra Chip itself will allow you to load tuning presets to your chip without having to take it to a dealer or send it back to PHP! Just plug it into your computer and download your selections.

This feature is especially helpful if you order a custom tune from Power Hungry Diesel--they can email you the file (which is specific to your serial number) and you can install it yourself from the comfort of your home! If you purchase the in-truck USB dash adapter, you can even plug your laptop into the chip from your cab while it is still installed in your truck!

When do I need a chip for my diesel?

Power Hungry Diesel ChipThere are many reasons to equip your diesel truck with a chip such as the Hydra Chip. In some cases, a chip is simply the best way to tune your engine performance according to your various driving needs. That is, the performance of your diesel truck is situational. If you are just driving home from work, for example, you will want your engine to perform differently than if you are pulling a RV, racing, or showing off your diesel's muscle.

A chip allows you to store different program settings that will overwrite the stock computer software in your Ford. These preset files are programmed to tune how your engine runs. It runs the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and also controls the TCM (Transmission Control Module). In the ports, they’re act as an electronic PCM which allows you to control the shift points and shift pressures. For example, you can firm up the shifts or soften the shifts so that your truck shifts at different RPMs.

In other cases, you may need a chip to calibrate your computer-functions to match modifications you have done to your diesel.

According to Power Hungry Diesel, modifications that necessitate a chip include:

  • Modified Injectors
  • Power Adders (Nitrous, Water/Meth, Propane)
  • All Modified Transmissions (except for BTS Valve Body, John Wood Valve Body, or Trans-Go Tugger Kit)
  • Modified large single or twin turbos.
  • Aggressive high pressure oil systems (Gen-2, Pulse, twin pump, etc.) OTHER THAN Adrenaline, SRP, and Terminator T-500
  • Engine mods such as camshafts, compression changes, cylinder head modifications.
  • Alternate fuels (vegetable oil, waste oil, trans fluid)

The Ferrari F430 Spyder Bio Fuel car from the Detroit Motor Show in 2008 We learnt at the weekend that Lamborghini are to reduce their CO2 footprint by 35%, and we recently  learnt about some of Ferrari’s Hybrid plans from patent applications the boys from Maranello had filed. But today we learn that not only is Ferrari looking at Hybrid options, but that it intends showing a car very soon – probably at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November. Ferrari is looking at several options to keep the ‘Environmentalists’ happy, including Bio-Fuel and Turbo charging.

New 2014 VW Golf R gets 296bhp – first photos

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R (pictured) revealed ahead of its Frankfurt debut We had expected the new Volkswagen Golf R to debut at Geneva this year, but that debut turned out to be the rather disappointing Mk 6 VW Golf R Cabrio, that not only sacrificed 4WD but came at a silly price (which VW subsequently dropped by more than £5k). But this time there’s no mistake, and the 2014 version of the VW Golf R – complete with 4WD, we’re pleased to say -will arrive next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show before going on sale in early 2014. Under the bonnet the 2.0 litre petrol turbo delivers a healthy 296bhp (300PS) and 280lb/ft of torque which is sent to all four wheels through VW’s latest Haldex 4Motion 4WD, with the ability to decouple the back axle drive under low load conditions and send almost all the power to the back wheels too when demanded.

Fiat Panda 100HP Review & Road Test (2010)

Mon, 13 Sep 2010

The Fiat Panda 100 HP Review It’s easy to get bogged down in what’s good and what’s bad in a car. The truth is that there are no really bad cars made any more, just degrees of good. Perhaps degrees of fitness for purpose – or fitness for the demographic the car is aimed at – is a better way of looking at it.
