New car sales surge by 7.6%

THE SURGE in new car sales has continued into the new year. There were 154,562 new vehicles registered last month, a 7.6% rise on January last year, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said. The society said sales of alternatively fuelled vehicle increased by 25%.

EyesOn Design Awards 2014 presented in Detroit

The winners of the EyesOn Design Awards have been announced in COBO Hall at the end of the second press day of the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2015 model, relaunched in time for the model's upcoming 50-year anniversary, is instantly recognizable as a Mustang, retaining similar proportions to the outgoing model but with a more sculpted and sophisticated silhouette.

GM shelves Camaro convertible, Z28

General Motors has delayed indefinitely the Chevrolet Camaro convertible and Z28 high-performance variant to save cash, sources say. GM also has tabled plans to add a four-cylinder engine version of the Camaro. GM is starting to ship the Camaro to dealers this week.
