Geneva Show 2014: High-tech Lamborghini blows in
Tue, 04 Mar 2014PRIDE OF PLACE on the Lamborghini stand at the Geneva Motor Show this year was taken by the brand-new Huracan supercar. Tasked with replacing the popular and long-running Gallardo, the Huracan claims to be faster, more efficient and more high-tech than its predecessor. The biggest change is a switch in the construction, which now uses a mix of aluminium and carbonfibre to create a big increase in stiffness but a lighter structure.
Video: Jaguar's Julian Thomson on the importance of design values
Tue, 30 Oct 2012Jaguar's Head of Advanced Design, Julian Thomson, appeared at this month's PSFK Conference in London giving a talk on design values. Thomson's talk, ‘Concepting Dreams, Making Reality Happen', dealt with questions of creating a design story as well as how Jaguar uses the value of its heritage while keeping things original and new. Thomson – the man behind the 2010 C-X75 and the recently revealed F-Type – said, "You can't get a good design story if you don't look at your heritage, where you came from, where your values came from." He went on to discuss the ‘sad years of Jaguar', from around 1968 to 2004 where Jaguar was too timid to develop and "essentially made the same-looking car." He put this down to a reluctance on Jaguar's part to move too far away from its successful models and, quite interestingly, because "not only did we start doing market research, we started asking Americans what they wanted." EPA rules greenhouse gases pose danger; more regulation expected
Fri, 17 Apr 2009The EPA has proposed a finding that greenhouse gases from new vehicles and industrial plants pose a danger to the public, kicking off a process that could result in tighter regulation of carbon dioxide emissions. The EPA's findings come two years after the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the agency to determine whether these emissions contribute to harmful air pollution under the Clean Air Act or whether the science is too uncertain.
