Turin Dream Exhibition
Mon, 17 Nov 2008The 'Dream' exhibition currently taking place at the Giovanni Agnelli Pavilion Esposizioni in Turin is a stroll through almost 60 years of creativity, which convinced the world of carmakers - and consumers - to accept new stylistic features; demand greater performance and safety; and to create new ways to adapt car interiors to the many demands of business and leisure. One of the main events commemorating Torino 2008 World Design Capital, there are 54 one-off examples and three-dimensional objects on view in the 12 galleries, piazza and atrium, including projects from local design schools Instutito Europeo di Design (IED) and the Istituto d'Arte Applicata e Design di Torino (IAAD). IED is showing two projects created by students on its post-graduate course in Transportation Design: the Fiat Panda from 2007 and the 2008 BMW ZX6 - a thesis project created selected as the main photo of the exhibition.
Jaguar to end XK production after 18 years
Fri, 07 Mar 2014Jaguar will this summer cease production of the XK 2+2 GT car after 18 years at the top of the Coventry firm’s model range. The decision to stop making the XK comes after the hugely successful launch of the F-Type – which, say analysts, has led to a big fall in XK sales as thousands of buyers queues up to buy the F-Type. Possibly Is it just us, or does it strike you as a bit odd that Saab are sending us information on the 2012 Saab 9-5 revisions and on the yet-to-actually-launch Saab 9-5 SportWagon, when Saab doesn’t even know if it will survive beyond tomorrow? True, it’s always best to be optimistic and plan for success not failure, but wouldn’t it have been pragmatic to wait until Uncle Tom Cobley and all have had their say on whether Saab can take the Chinese Shilling to survive.
