CAR sets new hybrid speed world record in Infiniti M35h

Infiniti M35h Hybrid (2011) long-term test review CAR Magazine has set a new Guinness World Record for an acceleration run in a hybrid car. Associate editor Tim Pollard drove an Infiniti M35h hybrid to record a 13.9sec time over the standing quarter mile - as quick as a Lamborghini Countach would've been in the 1980s. Online retail giant Amazon is now promoting vehicle sales on its website, advertising the new Nissan Versa Note supermini for $13,990 (around £8,630) on the US arm of its Internet-based department store. However, the firm isn’t directly selling the cars – it is instead ‘promoting’ the vehicles. The Nissans do get a full listing, though, as opposed to the simple hosted advert often seen elsewhere online.

Car production increases again

THE SOCIETY of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said UK manufacturers built 91,282 cars in August, up 16.2%, or 12,705, on the same period in 2012, leaving year-to-date volumes 3.1% ahead of 2012, at 984,545. The figures showed 20,298 cars were made for the home market this year, up 21.1%, while 70,984 were for export, up 14.8%. SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: "The past 12-months has been one of the most productive since late 2008." Samuel Tombs, of consultancy Capital Economics, said the CBI figures showed the manufacturing sector "continuing to go from strength to strength".
