VW has unveiled its first UK-bound pick-up for a generation, the new Amarok. It's coming here in September 2010 in the double-cab bodystyle pictured; a single-cab variant will follow in 2011. The new VW Amarok has workmanlike figures, with a 1.15-tonne payload, a 2.52 sq m cargo bed and a 2.8-tonne towing capacity.

Ford burns through $5.5 billion in 4th quarter as losses mount

Ford Motor Co., the only U.S. automaker operating without federal loans, burned through $5.5 billion in cash during the final three months of 2008 as losses mounted. Ford finished the year with cash reserves of $13.4 billion.

Mercedes-Benz recalls diesel cars for a problem with the fuel filter

Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 7,000 diesel vehicles from the 2011 and 2012 model years to fix a possible defect with the diesel filter that could cause it to leak fuel. Mercedes said it is concerned that a crash or a fire could ensue in the event of a fuel leak from the area around the heating component in affected vehicles. The recall will involve an estimated 6,782 vehicles.
