New techniques cut cost of carbon fiber
Mon, 11 Jul 2011Carbon fiber, once so costly that it was the preferred material only for fighter planes and supercars, is catching the attention of weight-conscious automakers. Craigslist catch: 1986 Lotus Turbo Esprit
Thu, 14 Apr 2011For the masochistic car enthusiast--and many of us here at AutoWeek count ourselves among that breed--nothing is sure to tantalize and frustrate quite as nicely as a Lotus. The example shown here, http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/ctd/2318628863.html, appears to be a fine specimen of Giguaro's wedgy Brit, and the rear-quarter decals indicate that this is a late HCi model--high-compression plus Bosch fuel injection.
Alfa Romeo Mito GTA (2009): first official picture
Mon, 23 Feb 2009By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 23 February 2009 09:19 Alfa Romeo has managed to squeeze a remarkable 240bhp from 1742cc in its new Mito GTA concept car. It's the hot hatch version of the Mito supermini and will form the centrepiece of the Alfa stand at next week's 2009 Geneva motor show. This is the first GTA since the musclebound 147. GTA stands for gran turismo alleggerito – and this pocket rocket version of the Mito has indeed been lightened and toughened up to give it some serious performance.
