Jaguar E-Type - all 6-cylinder - LH Rear Wing Repair - SECTION
This is the LOWER SECTION of a LH Rear Wing for the Series 1 E-Type. This panel is patterned after an original Series 1 E-Type, but is the same on all 6-cylinder cars - Series 1, 1.5, and 2. It is correct in every dimension - including the thickness, the location and angles of the bends and flanges, and curvature. We recently went to GREAT LENGTHS to make sure that these panels are EXACT! These have been available for years, but I do not like the radius of the edge - it is too soft - and obviously hand-hammered - so it is "lumpy" on top of that. This all means that your body man is going to be finishing off the edge properly with filler or high-build primer to make the edge as crisp as it should be, and that is a very BAD place for filler, and it will eventually start flaking off that edge! We fabricate these by hand, but with the proper machinery that does the job RIGHT! Our edges are a crisp 90-degree bend - and they match the original wheel arch beautifully! There really is NO COMPARISON between our panel and the other guys panel - and we have references from other shops to prove it! This section is approx. 3 inches wide above the wheel, and goes from the rear edge of the door (shut face) all the way around to the forward tip of the bumper seam. We make this panel for coupes that have rusted out between the inner and outer wing panels. Roadsters do not have an inner wing panel, so they do not rust here, but these would also fit roadsters if you have accident damage here, etc. Other manufacturers make this piece much wider - that is a BAD idea! Body shops end up putting in the panel using the total width, replacing MUCH more of the wing than is necessary, and then slathering the entire rear wing with filler when it's over. This moves the seam up into the wing, and the resulting heat from the welding ends up warping the whole wing - which they then completely re-sculpture with TONS of filler! Our panel is 3 inches wide above the wheel - we find that this is PLENTY of material to repair even the WORST rust we see in this area. We recommend fitting this panel, and trimming it down to use as little of the panel as possible - usually, 2 inches above the wheel is just about right. NOTE: We also have a similar repair piece for the forward edge of the rear lower valance - see our other auctions.
MORE ACCURATE than anything else out there!
These panels are just "kind of the right shape" when supplied by other manufacturers - ours are EXACT! This panel is delivered in fresh, bare steel, ready for the quality primer and paint of your choice - you will not have to spend time stripping off the low-quality, black "shipping primer" that some other manufacturers use...
See our other auctions - MANY panels are available for E-Type Shells and Bonnets!

MONOCOQUE METALWORKS
Monocoque Metalworks is a fabrication shop located in Northeastern Maryland that specializes in Jaguar E-Type (XKE) body shell restoration. If you are restoring your E-Type, the best place to start is a rock-solid bodyshell (or tub), and we can help! We offer services ranging from the fabrication of a single panel to the construction of an entirely NEW bodyshell!
FABRICATION AND SHIPPING OF ORIGINAL OR CUSTOM BODY PANELS – we have patterns and examples of nearly every E-Type panel and can fabricate any panel you need for your restoration. Before you spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on Martin Robey panels that may or may not fit properly, give us a try! OR, call us as the ONLY supplier of many of the smaller, internal panels that Martin Robey doesn’t supply (or lists in their catalog but don’t actually produce…) Want some extra holes punched? – or some original holes not included? – or the panel produced in a heavier gauge? - no problem!
COMPLETE RESTORATION OF YOUR TUB – we will take in your monocoque bodyshell, strip it down to bare metal, and replace all damaged or rusted panels using the proper techniques. Your shell will be returned to you in primer, dead straight, rock-solid, safe, and EXACTLY as it left the factory.
TUB EXCHANGE – looking to save time? Exchange your existing monocoque bodyshell for one of our already restored shells (subject to availability). You’ll arrive at the shop, unload your shell, and load up a completely restored, PERFECT shell and be back on your way in a few hours! With this service, we can cut your project time down by YEARS! Plus, you can exchange one body style for another – drop off a Coupe or 2+2 shell and take home a roadster!
TUB MODIFICATION – we can “beef up” your tub with heavier gauge components for vintage racing, or add complete sub-frames, roll bars or cages. If you can imagine it, we can fabricate it!
FABRICATION OF AN ENTIRELY NEW TUB – we can build you an entire floor assembly with sills, gussets, tunnel, etc. – a complete cowl/firewall assembly – or an entirely NEW bodyshell!
COMPONENT RESTORATION – We will happily restore any piece you care to ship us and return it to you in as-new condition. This includes, but is not limited to: bonnet components, heaters, door shells, decklids, coupe hatches, etc.
E-Type restoration is a labor of love at Monocoque Metalworks! The shop is outfitted with INDUSTRIAL GRADE MACHINES – many of which are vintage machines themselves – carefully restored and modified with the correct tooling to produce perfect E-Type panels. As a result, you will be amazed by the crisp cuts, straight bends, and perfect holes found on our panels! We have forming capabilities that include shearing, braking, rolling, wire-edging, bead-rolling, notching and punching – in aluminum, steel, or stainless steel - up to and including 16-gauge (.060) or beyond. We utilize a combination of MIG, TIG, Spot, and Plug welding to ensure that your car is assembled with factory-like originality, coupled with strength and safety you can depend on!

2015 BMW X4 first drive
Wed, 28 May 2014What Is It? It's as if the X6 made a Mini Me. Just as the oddly proportioned X6 Sport Activity Coupe took the perfectly sporty-looking BMW X5 and made it into the oddly proportioned, goofy-roofed big seller it is, so the X4 adds the goofy roof and unusual proportions to meld the mutant flanks of all 3- and 4-series vehicles into this everlasting whole.
New fuel marker to prevent fraud
Fri, 21 Feb 2014A NEW RED DYE fuel marker is being introduced by the British and Irish governments to tackle fraud. The illegal use of cheaper fuel in the UK means criminals avoid paying tax and can sell it on at a lower rate than normal fuel from a petrol station. The new marker will make it harder for criminals to disguise fuel by removing the red dye.
