But it seems to be much more than just that. The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive – for that is the catchy little moniker BMW has attached to this concept – is a showcase for BMW technology and the layered styling language we’ve already seen in the Vision EfficientDynamics concept (can’t we have some snappy little monikers instead of Anglicising the German practice of just joining words together in a line to make a new word?).

Finally, three years later, it gets its full production debut at the 2013 Frankfurt IAA Motor Show. Combining a race-spec petrol V8 with twin electric motors, the 918 trades lightweight purity for enormous all-wheel drive performance and astonishingly low fuel consumption.
BMW and Local Motors announce contest winners
Wed, 07 Nov 2012BMW and Local Motors have announced the winning ideas in the Urban Driving Experience Challenge after phase one of the contest closed on 16 October. Anthony Franze of Australia won first prize and a cash award of $7,500 with his design for a premium car sharing service called ‘BMW Reward Me.' He also earned himself a trip to Munich, Germany, to meet with the head of BMW's Group Research and Technology, Dr. Christoph Grote.
