Engineers 'most likely' to crash
Wed, 04 Jun 2014BUILDERS and bakers are among the best drivers while engineers and estate agents are among the worst, according to a survey. Based on accident figures per profession, the survey showed that persons classing themselves as 'administrators' were the safest drivers, followed by painters and farmers. Builders were the sixth-safest on the list compiled by insurance company 1st Central, with bakers eighth.

Fri, 21 Mar 2014In late 1984, Oldsmobile management had so much confidence in the potential of its new inline four-cylinder engine Quad 4, that a small team was assigned to the creation of the Aerotech, a research vehicle designed to demonstrate the engine's performance by setting a new world speed record. Ed Welburn, then assistant chief designer, was mostly working on the 1988 Cutlass Supreme but his passion for race cars made him the ideal candidate to be handed the assignment by Oldsmobile 2 studio's chief David North. Inspired by Le Mans racers such as the Porsche 917LH and Jim Hall's Chaparrals, he designed a long, flowing car that immediately seduced design director Chuck Jordan and GM management.
Milk float sets new speed record
Fri, 27 Jun 2014A SUPERCHARGED milk float has picked up a new world record after reaching a speed of 84mph on a racing circuit. The specially-adapted vehicle, sponsored by Weetabix On The Go Breakfast Drinks, beat the existing top speed for a milk float of 77mph on the tarmac at Bruntingthopre in Leicestershire. Complete with bull-bars, and boasting a V8 engine, the float was crafted from a traditional 4mph electric float.
