Auction is for the pictured 1" throttle body spacer fitting Jeep 2.5L & 4.0L motors 1991-2006. Once installed, it enhances off-idle torque from 800 rpm to approximately 3,000 rpm. The end result in the case of your Jeep is more part-throttle torque, improved mid-range power and overall combustion efficiency for better fuel economy, if you can keep your foot out of it that is. Since these are relatively low RPM torque based motors, it's just what you're looking for.

It does so by tuning the volume of the intake plenum area from just under the throttle body to the intake valve. That principal has been used back to the 1960's with Mopar Max Wedge and Cross Ram Hemi long intake motors. In modern vehicles the same task is performed
in variable intakes by opening and closing a flapper valve built into the intake plenum which directs the intake air over a long or shorter journey which in effect varies the plenum area. Result there is good bottom end torque and increased high end horsepower out of the same motor.

This is a smooth bore design spacer. Why a smooth bore as opposed to the many "swirl helix" examples available? As always the best answer is a simple one. These motors are point fuel injected with the fuel being sprayed right at the back of the intake valve. Since there’s no fuel  in the trip from the throttle body to the combustion chamber needing to be “swirled” into suspension by any turbulence which may be caused by a helix or spiral, no benefit is derived from such a helix or spiral.  Air , which is the only thing making the trip, doesn’t care if it even could  be twirled around by spirals. Again, it’s all just about adjusting the volume of the intake plenum. The spirals, in my opinion, are a marketing and sales tool only.

The spacer is injection molded from the same material that most modern intake manifolds are made from so is virtually impervious to any and all underhood evils. They have proven to be very durable in the hundreds of installations over the last seven years. Included are the spacer, two FelPro base gaskets, throttle linkage stand offs, appropriate bolts with stainless steel washers and i
nstallation instructions Easy installation in 30 minutes or so.

I built the plastic injection mold to produce these in response to customer's request to provide a complete 62mm throttle body/spacer kit. For now I'm only selling the spacer kits but plan to begin offering the 62mm/spacer complete kits here very soon.

Shipping is free for domestic buyers via USPS Standard Post. International buyers will pay actual cost USPS International First Class.

Bedford Autodrome to get Ariel Atoms for 2012

Thu, 15 Dec 2011

Corporate track-days at the Bedford Autodrome will get lairier in 2012 - Somerset-based Ariel has announced it’ll supply ten cars for the PalmerSport track-day events next year. Stopping short of the unhinged Atom V8, the PalmerSport-spec cars get the normally aspirated 245bhp Civic Type-R engine, and some key changes to set it aside from the Joe-Public Atom. The Palmer-spec car will get a Sadev paddle-shift sequential gearbox, which swaps ratios in 60 milliseconds, whilst some choice chassis mods optimise the Atom for its full-time track-toy brief.
