Smart Roadster reborn as an AC
It was only axed last year, but the Smart Roadster has sprung back to life as this – the all-new AC Ace. The band of British enthusiasts behind the project aim to start production of the rebodied sports car in mid-2007, with prices from £12,000 to £19,000. A deal to buy the rights and tooling jigs for the axed two-seater from parent company DaimlerChrysler is about to be signed, and there will also be a convertible version.

Jaguar F-Type Coupe and F-Type R Coupe revealed
We finally get the reveal of the Jaguar F-Type Coupe in Los Angeles, but we also get the debut of the F-Type we thought we might have to wait longer for – the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe. Whilst the F-Type Coupe and S Coupe get the same familiar V6 Supercharged engines as the F-Type Roadster, the new F-Type R gets Jaguar’s ‘R’ V8 S/C with 542bhp, a 0-60 mph of 4.0 seconds and a limited top speed of 186 mph. That means the F-Type Coupe makes the jump from the two V6 versions straight to the V8 R, missing out the regular V8 S/C found in the Roadster, but at £85,000 the F-Type R Coupe is just £5k more than the V8 S Roadster and looks a hugely promising offering.

Lotus has confirmed details for its new inhouse V8 engine family, which will make its first road car appearance in the 2013 Esprit. Responding to feedback which said the 'New Era' plan to launch five new models was weakened by its reliance on Toyota engines, the new management team decided last Christmas to design and develop its own engine. 'The feedback from customers was "how can you justify a £100,000 car with a Toyota engine?",' said chief executive Dany Bahar.
