If you are looking at this ad, you know what a JSD is, and maybe you need one. I built this one, from the plans Sailrite offers, for my trip around the world (completed) starting in 2006. The drogue was designed for my 26,000 pound, 42 foot ketch. It is a total of 350 feet long with 110 sailcloth parachutes spaced at about 2 foot intervals. It has NEVER been used, except that one of the bridle halves has been put to light use since the voyage was completed and shows some ordinary cosmetic wear. Per the plans, the total length is divided into a two 25-foot bridle halves, of 3/4" nylon double-braid, an 80-foot leader of 7/8" double-braid continuing into an additional 80-foot length with 45 chutes. That is attached to a 165-foot length of 3/4" double braid with 65 chutes. All four of the rope segments are professionally spliced with SS thimbles at the bridle joint. The connection from bridle to the main segment involves very hefty shackles and an oval link, which are pictured and included. (There is an additional 25 feet of chain which is a "sinker" and weighs 48 pounds. I think many buyers would prefer to add their own weight rather than paying for shipping the chain so I am not including the chain in this sale. If the auction winner wants the chain I'll be happy to give it to them for the cost of shipping, which I'm guessing would be about the same as one of the two packages the rest will ship in.) I will ship the bridle, and the 3/4" segment in one box and the 7/8" segment in another. The two long segments will be joined by the buyer with a simple loop knot using the spliced ends. I am including also an old sailbag which can be used for storage or, onboard, for deployment.
This listing shows "pickup only" and for a Florida purchaser this might make sense. I will of course ship anywhere in the US, but the buyer will pay actual shipping charges to be determined after the auction closes. I'm doing it this way because ebay does not seem to have a provision for figuring shipping charges with more than one package. I will ship by UPS Ground. You can estimate the shipping (from Stuart, Florida) based on the following: box #1 weight: 50 lbs, L x W x H: 21x18x15 box #2 weight: 40 lbs, L x W x H: 19x19x16 |
