Ford’s 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine now going in to 1 in 5 new Fords

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

Half the Ford B-Max (pictured) sold get the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine Who’d have thought, just a few years ago, that a 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder engine would become one of the most popular engines in a new car in Europe? But that’s exactly what’s happened with the increasingly impressive 1.0 litre EcoBoost from Ford which, as its power output has increased, has become a more and more popular engine of choice. The little Ford EcoBoost even seems to have persuaded buyers that they should forsake dirty diesel engines for it, and Ford has fitted 120,000 in the first six months of 2014 with almost half B-Max models, a third of Focus and 30 per cent of Fiestas getting the little wonder.

Malaysian Grand Prix Qualifying: Hamilton grabs pole for Mercedes

Sat, 29 Mar 2014

Lewis Hamilton takes pole in Malaysia in heavy rain Lewis Hamilton has secured his second pole position in two outings for Mercedes at the Malaysian Grand Prix – equaling Jim Clark’s record of 33 poles – as rain turned the Sepang track in to a lake. And with drivers quickly going on to full wets – and cars flying off the track as the rain took control of the qualifying sessions – the playing field was levelled, allowing Red Bull’s reigning World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, to almost pip Hamilton to pole, taking second place just 0.055s behind the Brit. Behind Vettel is the winner of the opening Australian Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg, in the second Mercedes, followed by the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso and the Red Bull of new boy Daniel Ricciardo – who was so impressive in Asutrali two weeks ago – taking fifth spot.

Monaco Grand Prix 2014: It’s a Mercedes front row – but it’s Rosberg on pole

Sat, 24 May 2014

Nico Rosberg (pictured) takes pole for Mercedes at Monaco 2014 Nico Rosberg has taken pole position for tomorrow’s Monaco Grand Prix, but the way in which he took pole position does leave room for doubt. Rosberg did seem quicker in final qualifying, but he ‘went off’ at the Mirabeau corner as final qualifying was coming to a close and depriving Lewis Hamilton of the chance to grab pole on his last qualifying lap. Did Rosberg go off on purpose to wreck Hamilton’s final run?
