Features of Proban Cotton:

This SFI racing fire jacket is made from Proban cotton, which is a fantastic alternative to Nomex. Developed in the 1950s, Proban (PROBAN) is a fire retardant chemical that can be applied to cotton and other cellulosic fabrics. In the event of exposure to fire, Proban cotton decomposes as it burns, forcing fire damage into a localized charred section that serves as a barrier. Proban has no afterglow, does not smolder and does not allow the spread of fire outside of the immediately affected area, greatly reducing the risk of injury. Another benefit of Proban is that it does not affect the physical properties of the fabric that it is applied to, as there is no chemical reaction between the two elements. Proban fabrics are used for protective purposes in industrial, military, civilian and racing applications, and have developed a proven reputation as a dependable fire retardant material.

Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV previews the MLC, Mercedes’ take on the BMW X6

Sun, 20 Apr 2014

The Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV (pictured) preview the new MLC The arrival of a Mercedes MLC – a coupe version of the ML – has been clearly signalled for some time but now, with the debut of the Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV at the Beijing Motor Show, we get the first clear sight of Mercedes SUV/SAV to rival the BMW X6. The Concept Coupe SUV may be a coupe version of the Mercedes ML, but its a far more glitzy, design-led SUV than the rather boxy ML with lots of curves and contours and a surprising amount of glass. A huge statement nose with lots of bling and an oversized 3-pointed star dominate the front of the Coupe SUV, a dramatic coupe roofline, contoured flasks, big 22″ alloys and a back end that takes design cues from the new S-Class Coupe but with slim lights that extend the full width of the car.

Saab is Dead – Spyker pulls out

Last profitable around the time the dinosaurs died out it has been kept alive in recent years with funds from US car giant GM. But GM’s problems lead to the forced sale of Saab, and for a while it looked like Dr Koenigsegg had a cure for the ailing Swede.

Hyundai teases new HCD-14 concept (2013)

Fri, 11 Jan 2013

Hyundai is no stranger to the coupé market and it plans to unveil another at the 2013 Detroit motor show next week - in the shape of the HCD-14.  No information regarding performance or pricing has been released yet, aside from a single teaser image, but a Mercedes CLS-type swooshing rear end won’t get any complaints from us. Hyundai HCD-14: the teaser    Hyundai says the HCD-14 'will give the automotive world a glimpse into future Hyundai premium vehicle design, advanced 3-D gesture-based technology controls, and spirited driving dynamics.' Standard concept car teasing twaddle, then. For the full story on the new Hyundai coupe, come back next week when we report live from the North American International Auto Show, aka the Detroit motor show.
