Le Mans 2014 in pictures

This weekend (14-15 June) sees the start of the 82nd running of the Le Mans 24-hour race, one of the most gruelling and prestigious events on the sportscar calendar. It's also something of a pilgrimage for tens of thousands of Brits, and we'll be joining them to bring you the full flavour of what amounts to a heady mix of summer festival and motor race. BMW X5 (F15)

This is the new, third generation BMW X5, the biggest-selling SUV in its segment with over 1.3 million sold since the first was launched in 1999. While the previous versions have sat more in the high-riding wagon space (BMW prefers to call them Sports Activity Vehicles), this latest F15 model appears to have shifted closer to a more traditional SUV, appearing taller and less ‘squat', certainly than the car it replaces. This is partly due to the DLO, which dips down behind the A-pillar, creating a deep window.

Gulf One Z06 tops $1 million at auction

An icon of 1960s racing, the Gulf One Corvette Z06 racer, was in familiar position last weekend at the Mecum Auction--first. The 1963 car sold for $1.05 million at the Kissimmee, Fla., event--doubling the price of a 1962 Mercedes 300 SL, which went for $525,000, not including the buyer’s premiums. The racer is based on a production Corvette Sting Ray.
