Ken Maely Enterprises Seat Base

Purchased from the estate of Ken "The Shoe Man" Maely after his passing in 2003, fiberglass seat base, 12" long x 7" at its widest x 4.5" at its tallest; rear mount holes 4.25" apart. This is a skirted design as used on speedway bikes but could also look cool on a bobber. Note: As each seat was handmade, all are a little different when it comes to the inherent color splotches that result from the 'glassing process; all dimensions are identical, though. Please click on MotoViejo Store for more rare motorcycle parts, literature & collectibles, including more Maely items.

Ken Maely (1925-2003) was a flat-track and speedway racer in the late 1930s and ’40s who grew tired of constantly replacing his metal sliding shoes. Made from the cut-off ends of junkyard car bumpers, they would only last a few weeks. Maely, ever the inventor, crafted one from bandsaw blades that was lighter and far more durable. Soon other riders asked for their own and starting in 1950 he went into business as Maely Enterprises, providing steel shoes to virtually every AMA champion for the next five decades as well as thousands of fair-circuit amateurs. Maely also made seats & fender pads, fiberglass gas tanks, even complete speedway frames. A fixture in the AMA pits or later at his farm/training track in Corona, California, “The Shoe Man” was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame in 1999.

Tue, 13 Oct 2009

The West’s perception of a 4×4 in India – the truth is quite different (click for full image) Car buyers in the West flooded in to SUVs / 4x4s of one sort or another over the last decade. But the current economic woes have brought the SUV bandwagon to an abrupt halt as buyers desert the SUV in droves in favour of something smaller and more economical. Indians can actually buy everything from the most popular Ford Endeavour through to a full blown Cayenne or Range Rover.

Hyundai i20 (2014): first pictures of grown-up new supermini

Mon, 11 Aug 2014

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 11 August 2014 07:30 Here is the new 2014 Hyundai i20 supermini, unveiled this morning ahead of a Paris motor show debut in October. Designed in Europe and built in Turkey, this is a Europe-focused supermini and benefits from a new, pumped-up platform designed to close the gap between the i20 and class leaders such as the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo. Hyundai is claiming one of the most spacious cabins in the B-segment, thanks to a wheelbase stretched by 45mm – a couple of inches longer than before.
