The Hyundai Veloster Detroit - Hyundai's new 'Utility Coupe'
As we said when we ran the tease for the Hyundai Veloster last week, this here Hyundai Veloster has been a long time coming. Two years after the Hyundai Coupe stopped being made, and more than a year after we ran spy shots of the Veloster, Hyundai finally manage to get a production version of the Veloster on a show stand. With its funky urban looks – like a squashed coupe version of the Hyundai Curb – the Veloster, complete with asymmetrical doors, promises to be at least as much fun as its progenitor – the Hyndai Coupe – was.

Hamilton (r) has pole in Russia followed by Rosberg (l) and Bottas (c)
Amid tight security thanks to Russia’s ongoing spat in Ukraine, and a muted appetite for exuberance after Jules Bianchi’s dreadful crash with a JCB on track last weekend, the rest of the F1 circus seems to be on normal duty, with Hamilton’s Mercedes taking the front row and Hamilton dominating proceedings in qualifying to secure another pole position. But it wasn’t necessarily going all Mercedes’ way, with Bottas stringing together a very quick lap in the dying moments of final qualifying that looked like it could propel him in front of the Mercedes duo, until he lost traction at the end of his flying lap and had to settle for third spot in tomorrow’s race. Joining Bottas on row two is Jenson Button and his McLaren after a strong qualifying, and Daniil Kvyat – at his first home Grand Prix – managed to secure a very impressive fifth spot for Toro Rosso. Kevin Magnussen in the second McLaren would have been on row three in sixth spot but gets a five place penalty for a gearbox change.

McLaren P1 production starts in Woking
The Geneva Motor Show in March saw the arrival of the first production version of the new McLaren P1 (and its arch-rival, the LaFerrari). But it’s taken until now – seven months later – for McLaren to finish final testing of the P1 before pressing the button on their clinical assembly line to start customer P1s rolling out. In between the reveal at Geneva and production starting, McLaren have been having a bash at the Nurburgring (with mixed results) and doing some final hot weather testing on the P1, but now – apart from a few inevitable tweaks once the P1 gets out in to the real world – the P1 is ready for its customers.
