One Lap of the Web: A rally car drinks beer
Tue, 11 Mar 2014-- Thierry Neuville was somewhere on his way back to the pits after finishing the final stage of the WRC Mexico when his Hyundai i20 rally car sprung a leak: The hole in the radiator was bleeding coolant at a frightening rate. If Neuville didn't make the 33 kilometers back, he would lose his second place standing behind Volkswagen and all would be lost. (Alas, them's the breaks in the sometimes-quixotic rulebook of the World Rally Championship.) We’ve reported a few times recently on what we now know to be the Fiat 500L. It initially seemed that Fiat would use the ElleZero code name for the production car, but we subsequently learnt that, despite only a passing resemblance to the 500, it was to be the Fiat 500L (for long).
Land Rover LR4s successfully cross America off-road
Wed, 28 Aug 2013Land Rover Expedition America has just wrapped up its month-long trek across the United States, almost all of it off-road. A team of three Land Rover LR4s covered 4,000-plus miles from Asheville, N.C., to the Oregon coast, following an off-road route called the Trans-America Trail charted by motorcycle legend Sam Correro in the 1990s. No other production car is known to have ever completed this journey.
