Concept Car of the Week: Italdesign Columbus (1992)
Fri, 21 Dec 2012Following the success of large MPVs such as the Renault Espace and Chrysler Voyager, the idea of adding luxury to the already spacious interior seemed like a natural step forward in the early nineties. A few would remember the De la Chapelle Parcours, a sort of hyper-luxurious Espace powered by a 326bhp V8 from Mercedes. However, they only sold one.
New Hyundai Sant Fe Super Bowl adverts the most effective
Mon, 04 Feb 2013It’s been revealed that Hyundai got the most bang for its Buck with Super Bowl adverts for the new Santa Fe increasing Hyundai site traffic by 1000%. So, with figures like that and a huge captive audience, it’s no wonder car makers like to strut their latest products in front of the Super Bowl audience with the hope of a big return in sales. Umpteen car makers ran TV adverts in the 2013 Super Bowl, but it looks like Hyundai has come out very much on top, with Edmunds reporting a traffic increase of 738% in traffic for the new Hyundai Santa Fe after Hyundai ran its adverts and the US Autotrader site a massive 1000% increase.
New Jaguar XJR UK debut next week
Fri, 07 Jun 2013The New Jaguar XJR (pictured) gets its UK debut at Moto Expo 2013 Lovers of powerful XJs were delighted discover that a new Jaguar XJR, which debuted at the New York Auto Show in April, will finally give them a properly sporty XJ, rather than the somewhat compromised SuperSport version of the current XJ with the 5.0 litre Supercharged engine. Jaguar has kept faith with the history of the XJR by giving the new model a subtle ‘Sporty’ makeover with only gentle go-faster bits – like ‘R’ badges, new alloys, quad tailpipes, small boot spoiler, front splitter and a subtle body kit – so the new XJR looks purposeful, rather than looking like its been dipped in a Halfords bargain bucket. The real changes come under the skin, with the new XJR getting the 542bhp version of the 5.0 litre supercharged engine, tweaked dampers and spring rates, refined active diff and DSC and new shift patterns for the 8-speed auto box.
