The Peel P50 drives in to the new Ford Transit
The new Ford Transit offers lots of room for ‘Stuff’, something Ford decided to demonstrate by enlisting the world’s smallest car to demonstrate. It may be simply a take on Jeremy Clarkson’s games with the Peel in and around the BBC Television Centre – and you don’t get John Humphries driving the Peel or Fiona Bruce (and her bottom) pushing it back out – but you do get a good idea of just how big the new Transit is. We’re not entirely sure that turning the Peel around in the Transit – and yes, this Peel is fitted with a reverse gear, unlike Clarkson’s – demonstrates the Transit is any bigger than just driving in and driving out would, but the endless faffing to achieve an about turn is an excuse to use some Benny Hill-esque music to pass the time.

The opening of MG's new design center this week at the historic production site of Longbridge, Birmingham, England was both an incredible and credible occasion. Incredible, because the brand looked dead in the water after the debacle of MG Rover's collapse in 2005 and even after various Chinese takeovers, its UK operation seemed destined to play no more than a tokenistic bit part. And thankfully credible too, because now all of MG's global design will genuinely be led from this new facility in the epicentre of England's traditional motoring heartland.

Jeremy Clarkson's bachelor pad Motorhome on a Citroen CX
Top Gear may turn up on our screens for just half a dozen episodes at a time. But those one hour episodes take a big chunk of the rest of the year filming, so with Top Gear off air at the moment the boys are out playing. A few weeks back they managed to cause the volcanic eruption in Iceland with May trying to rush the volcano in a Hilux with water-cooled tyres, and now the boys have been spotted in the UK with the results of their ‘Build a Motorhome’ challenge.
