Lost Drag Strips - Ghosts of Quarter Miles Past Lost Drag Strips - Ghosts of Quarter Miles Past
by Tommy Lee Byrd
This book takes a look at many of the lost quarter-mile tracks
across the country. Some of them are gone completely; paved
over to make room for housing developments or strip malls.
Others are ghostly remnants of what once was, offering a sad
and even eerie subject for the photographer. For fans of drag
racing's past, it's a sobering and interesting study. The stories
are true and the photos are thought provoking, which makes
this book hard to put down. Tracks include: Lions Associated
Drag Strip, Orange County International Raceway, Riverside
International Raceway, Bee Line Dragway, Motion Raceway,
Motor City Dragway, Oswego Dragway, U.S. 30 Drag Strip,
Dover Drag Strip, Pittsburgh International Dragway,
Connecticut Dragway, Pocono Drag Lodge, Lakeland

Jaguar ramps up interest for the XF Sportbrake

Sat, 07 Jan 2012

Jaguar XF Sportbrake - now you can register your interest The Jaguar XF Sportbrake (XF Estate) has been teased a couple of times so far, but now Jaguar are taking registrations of interest for the new XF. It’s not huge news that the Jaguar XF Sportbrake is being dangled again, but it’s an indication that the launch of the XF Estate is getting closer. When Jaguar first officially confirmed the XF Sportbrake back in November, they did so by creating a new Twitter account – @sportbrake  - from which they’ve now acquired around 1,000 followers and, apart from responding to followers’ Tweets, have been regaling us with enigmatic Tweets like ‘The House in the Trees reflects nature in its balanced curves’ and ‘… few people achieve it… have you?’ Jaguar followed that up with a ‘Santa Special’ with Father Christmas loading presents in the back of the XF Sportbrake – still camouflaged and still with ‘@sportbrake’ plastered on the side.

Hennessey tunes the McLaren MP4-12C

Wed, 01 Feb 2012

Texas tuner Hennessey Performance will offer an upgrade package for the McLaren MP4-12C. The result is an 800-hp machine that looks even more sinister than the car it came from. The blood-red paint, carbon-fiber aero kit and blacked-out wheels in the rendering all say supercar to us.

Le Mans regulations for 2014 announced

Thu, 14 Jun 2012

The organisers of the Le Mans 24-hour have announced a raft of radical new rules on the eve of the 2012 race - including the less restricted use of hybrid power for the top-flight LMP1 racers from 2014. The governing ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest) unveiled the major changes due in two years' time as the teams start the 80th 24 Heures du Mans event which runs from Saturday 16 - Sunday 17 June 2012. In order to stay in tune with our environmentally-conscious, economically-chastened times, the focus of the alterations is to improve the efficiency of the elite LMP1 cars' technology and cement a link with roadgoing hybrids, as well as making the race cars safer.
