BMW ready to shift small coupes, convertibles to even-number nameplates

Reports in Europe say that BMW is planning a shake-up in the naming strategy for its smaller coupes and convertibles, as well as planning to shift its 1-series cars onto a front-drive platform. The nameplate shake-up will have coupe and convertible variants of the 1-series become the 2-series, while coupe and convertible variants of the 3-series will become the 4-series. The changeover is expected to start in 2013, according to a report on the Web site of Car magazine.

Hamilton wins in Hungary

Hamilton takes McLaren's firts win of the season at the Hungaroring Hamilton passed Red Bull’s Mark Webber early in the race, and found himself at the front of the pack when Alonso retired after a botched wheel change saw him lose his front wheel. Despite the pressure from Raikkonen Hamilton never really looked in danger of losing the lead and brought the McLaren home in first place for the first time this season. Lincoln Quicksilver Ghia concept heads to auction

Next week at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Fla., bidders will get a chance to take home something truly unique, a Lincoln Quicksilver concept car created by Carrozzeria Ghia in 1983. This radical concept was created at a time when Ghia was a division of the Ford Motor Company. The concept itself debuted in one place where the Lincoln brand was, ahem, somewhat underappreciated: the Geneva Auto Show.
