Big Three Truck Premieres
Tue, 10 Oct 2006Once just a local agricultural fair, the State Fair of Texas, Dallas, has now become the launch platform of choice for automobile manufacturers to present new trucks. Texas is an immense market for pickup trucks and this year, the Detroit Three were there, along with Toyota, to present world premieres. And for the auto executives that make the trip down, the Texas Fair is surely the easiest assignment they will get each year: people in Texas like full size trucks and buy them as personal vehicles not because they need their capacity but rather because "it's Texas here, y'know".
Bentley's posh leather child seat
Thu, 12 Nov 2009Bentley has launched a new collection of accessories to compliment its cars, all of which apparently highlight the company’s 'design and craftsmanship skills'. From child seats to torches, the range is designed to make the life of your average Bentley owner just that little bit more comfortable. Perhaps, but having spent £150,000 on 200mph of GT pleasure, you are unlikely to fit a Halfords booster seat. The hand-stitched child seat - for 'the company’s smallest enthusiasts' - is made to match mum or dad's car with the same leather and piping, and can feature the child's name embroidered on the back beneath the Bentley wings, if Sir or Madam wishes.
Jaguar: Four-wheel drive a priority. Hybrid Jaguars not.
Sun, 20 Nov 2011Our long term Jaguar XJ would have been better in the snow with 4WD - but it's coming We’ve been talking about a four-wheel drive platform for Jaguars for a long time now. As far back as 2009, Jaguar privately confessed that the lack of an XF Estate was down to the lack of a 4WD platform to make the XF Estate a proper competitor in the luxury load-lugging market. And although we thought Jaguar could still make a success of the XF Estate without a 4WD option, we understood their perspective; Jaguar didn’t want to be the poor relation in the luxury estate market.
