Variometer System

The variometer system consists of

  • the total energy compensated variometer,
  • the net-relative variometer,
  • the interval integrator,
  • the speed command,
  • the audio generator.

The interval integrator calculates the average rate of climb over a certain time constant which may be selected in the LX5000.

For the most common gliders a list of approximated polars is stored in the LX5000. The speed command signal is generated using the polar you have selected from this list. Additional coefficients for glider polars not contained in the list, may be calculated and stored in the LX5000. You may do this by using the computer program „POLAR EXE" which is contained in the scope of supply.

The signal is available on the analog instrument and on the liquid christal display, as well as through a tone created by the audio generator. The mode and the frequency of the audio tone may be selected in the SETUP program.

The parameters listed below influence the speed command signal:

  • The McCready setting,
  • the wingload setting,
  • the glider polar,
  • the wind,
  • a correction to the polar, i.e. to compensate for bugs.

Audi Q7 S Line Sport and Style Editions revealed

Fri, 24 Jan 2014

Audi Q7 S Line Style Edition and S Line Sport Edition revealed The Audi Q7 is rapidly becoming invisible in the premium SUV market as it’s overshadowed by newer offerings from BMW and Mercedes, and from Land Rover too. But we’re expecting an all new Audi Q7 to arrive later in 2014 which, Audi hope, will offer enough to make the Q7 relevant to buyers of big, luxury SUVs once again. But in the meantime, Audi still wants to be shifting Q7s from their showrooms so we get a pair of special edition Q7s – the Q7 S Line Sport Edition and S Line Style Edition – to hopefully add a bit of fizz to Q7 sales.

Sinkhole fears shut commuter route

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

A ROAD in a key transport-link town is to be closed over fears that a sinkhole exists deep under the surface. A hole has appeared in St John's Road in Watford, Hertfordshire, and preliminary investigations carried out last week had to be stopped as there were concerns about undermining the road and footway further. Hertfordshire County Council said: "A geotechnical engineer present during the investigations advised that there is a possibility that a sinkhole exists deep down in the underlying chalk." Following f urther investigations today, the road is being shut until work on it can be completed.

Vauxhall Insignia facelift stars at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show

Wed, 11 Sep 2013

Ten years on from the very first Insignia concept, unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2003, Vauxhall is showcasing a new, facelifted Insignia here at Frankfurt 2013. Part of the update to the Insignia is a new internet connectivity feature, which should make life on the road for travelling professionals a bit easier – now you can locate your nearest non-VAT qualifying hot food snack retailer in next to no time… We’re also fans of the rationalised trim range, down from 14 grades to eight for the new car. While the Insignia’s updated engine range boasts impressive efficiency (as we’ll see in a minute), we can’t help wondering if this might have been a good time to introduce a hybrid or range-extender powertrain, trumping Ford and its forthcoming Mondeo Hybrid in the process.
