Aston Martin will race this hydrogen-powered, twin-turbocharged Rapide S at the Nurburgring 24 hour endurance race in May 2013. The radical Rapide is set to become the first hydrogen-powered car to compete in an international racing event, and the only car ever to complete a racing lap of the infamous Nordschleife without emitting so much as a gram of carbon dioxide. Volkswagen preps the Golf EV for 2013 launch

Volkswagen AG has begun delivery of a second test fleet of Golf blue-e-motion EVs to customers in Germany, the automaker said in a statement. Of the 80 cars being tested in the fleet, 53 will be delivered in Berlin, with the rest going to Hannover and Wolfsburg. The vehicles will be distributed to businesses, public bodies and private motorists, although the majority of cars in Berlin will be tested by corporate customers, as VW views this group as the largest market for EVs in the future.

Longest ever period of UK new car sales growth

The SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) has released the new car registration data for May 2014, and revealed that the UK new car market is officially experiencing its longest period of growth since records began. Sales in May were up 7.7% compared to 2013 – making it the 27th consecutive month that figures have increased. A grand total of 194,032 new cars registered also represents the most units sold in May since 2004.
