McLaren plan to make windscreen wipers obsolete
Sun, 15 Dec 2013McLaren plan to make windscreen wipers obsolete Much of the ‘clunkiness’ in cars – stuff like wind-up windows and a cranking handle – have been made obsolete in cars as technology arrived to make things work better, but one thing that remains on modern cars from the dawn of the motoring age is the windscreen wiper. Invented by Mary Anderson in 1903 after she realised drivers of the first motor cars were having to lean out of the window in rainy conditions to see where they were going, it became a standard fitting on all cars within a few years. Windscreen wipers have certainly improved over the years as technology has developed, but they’re still basically a strip of rubber moving across the windscreen to clear rain.
Daydreaming of nudist beaches whilst driving? BMW has the answer.
Wed, 02 May 2012BMW Lane Departure Warning - just in case you're daydreaming BMW has a new advert for its lane departure warning system featuring a daydreaming man and his vibrating head. We’ve all done it (well, we all have) – managed to drive to wherever we’re going without remembering a single thing about the uneventful journey. We all think that if something did happen our brains would jump back in to focus and attend to whatever it is that needs attending to.
A schooling in Jaguar: a lifetime fan speaks
Thu, 08 Jul 2010My Jaguar story starts in 1978. I started at secondary school which entailed a train journey each morning and then a five-minute walk. Almost every day on that walk I was passed by a beautiful Squadron Blue 4.2 XJ6 with a black vinyl roof, chrome plated wheels and a private registration number.
