The Car Design News - GM Interactive Design Competition was open to design students across the USA and Canada. This was an open, online competition, which was held in the spirit of the web, where data and information are shared and exchanged with ease, and where people could come together to collaborate.  In this spirit, the judges were looking to see the contribution the entrants made within the wider online community and how they helped their competition peers. We advised students to engage in dialogue with those who commented on their work, and where they made changes to their design based on feedback they received to illustrate how and why this is so.

Mercedes CLS 2011 Spy shot The Mercedes CLS was the first - and some would say still the best - interpretation of a four door swoopy-coupe. It set the benchmark for cars to follow and made the genre hugely desirable. We now have everyone from VW to Porsche and Aston Martin to Jaguar producing 4 door coupes, with Audi joining in with the Sportbacks and BMW about to put the Gran Coupe in to production.

Cadillac has revealed its Elmiraj grand coupé concept, which showcases its plans for its next-generation flagship sports models. The four-seater concept – which measures in at 5,207mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,397mm high – was designed at General Motors' advanced design studio in North Hollywood, California, under the direction of Frank Saucedo and is an evolution of last year's Cien concept. Mark Adams, Cadillac design director, says, "Elmiraj advances Cadillac's provocative modern design and performance, contrasted with bespoke craftsmanship and luxury.
