Mercedes Benz Gas Cap??? Or Do You Know What It Is? on 2040-parts.com

I have no idea what this is. It says Mercedes Benz and it is in excellent condition and is bright and shiny. I assume it is part of a gas tank filler cap. It obviously screws on something but I don't know what it is?
It is almost 2" in diameter and 1 1/2" in length.
Any ideas????
