Redesigned Ford Focus expected to get 40 mpg on the highway

The redesigned 2012 Ford Focus will get an estimated 40 mpg in highway driving with an all-aluminum 2.0-liter engine mated to a six-speed, dual-dry-clutch automatic transmission. The normally aspirated engine combines variable camshaft timing and high-pressure direct fuel injection to crank out 160 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. That compares with 140 hp and 136 lb-ft from the aluminum 2.0-liter engine used in the current-generation Focus.

Most major car companies carry out most of their design work themselves, with dedicated design departments increasingly capable of handling every aspect of the design process. But few car companies do not use the services of external car design consultancies for some smaller projects, and many smaller car companies use such consultancies to supplement their more limited in-house design facilities on larger design projects. College Exhibition: Coventry University MA Degree Show 2009

MA students from Coventry University's School of Art and Design presented their annual degree show at Coventry Transport Museum late last month. Entitled ‘Keep Movin', the nine graduating students showed a range of projects, which centered on the theme of sustainable transportation, energy efficient vehicles and new materials. There was also a sample of an earlier group project that explored the future of the car based on the ‘Foresight Future Scenarios 2055'.
