This listing is for a tail lamp lens and surround for series W108/109 Mercedes-Benz vehicles.  Left hand side.  These are used parts.  The lens has a burned spot from the inside.  See last picture; with the lens installed, the burn isn't visible.  The chrome surround is in pretty good condition, but close examination shows fine scratch marks around the edges from the donor vehicle having been sanded before respray.  So, they will work on a driver-type car but they are not mint, perfect, cherry, or anything like that.  Threaded mounting pins are intact.

2013 Nissan LEAF updated

Wed, 21 Nov 2012

Nissan has updated the LEAF EV in Japan for 2013 with better range, less weight and a new LEAF S entry-level model. Revealed in Japan – but likely to come to the UK from 2013 when the LEAF starts rolling out of Nissan’s Sunderland factory – there are significant upgrades to the powertrain which result in both less weight and better range. Nissan has had a play with the electric powertrain and made it both smaller and lighter with a new motor that uses 40 per cent less dysprosium (a rare earth metal) than before, and comes in 30 per cent smaller and 10 per cent lighter, and a new streamline battery case and a few other tweaks drops the LEAF’s weight by 80kg.

Vauxhall VXR8 & SMART for-two CDI take MPG Marathon honours

Mon, 10 Oct 2011

Vauxhall VXR8 & SMART for-two CDI take MPG Marathon honours On the face of it, it’s reasonable to expect a car as small as the SMART for-two CDI to be capable of astonishing economy if driven in a certain way. And the ALD Automotive / Shell FuelSave MPG Marathon, run last week near Cirencester, proved exactly that, with a SMART driven by Mick Linford and co-driver Ella Flynn managing to use less than four gallons of diesel to cover the 370 mile route. That means the SMART fortwo CDI averaged 99.24mpg on the route on real roads, an improvement of 16 per cent on the official combined figure of 85.6.

The Future Role of the Vehicle Designer

Fri, 14 May 2010

The vehicle design department at the Royal College of Art hosted the second in a series of five lectures looking at the future of the profession last week. Moving on from the previous week's topic of sustainability, this debate explored the future roles and responsibilities of the vehicle designer. Head of department Dale Harrow began by posing the question "Is it time to rethink – do we still need the car?" Although still relevant, Harrow's ultimate answer to this was that the profession was about to see marked change, with the end to an era where "designers are locked behind closed doors in studios".
