Toyota tests chips that improve hybrid efficiency by 10 percent
Tue, 20 May 2014Toyota announced on Tuesday that it has developed a new semiconductor, claiming it can boost fuel efficiency in hybrid cars by an impressive 10 percent. The semiconductors manage the flow of electricity through the power-control unit that connects the battery to an electric or hybrid car's motor and generator. The newly developed semiconductors are said to consume only a tenth of the energy of today's chips, while allowing the power-control unit to be 80 percent smaller.
McLaren MP4-12C arrives in USA (video)
Fri, 17 Feb 2012The MP4-12C hits the US The McLaren MP4-12C has finally hit the USA, and to celebrate McLaren has put together a video showing its arrival in America. McLaren had that problem with their last car – the iconic McLaren F1 – and it took years for the legislative mess to be sorted to let ultra rich Americans indulge in a bit of McLaren love (mind you, it also lined McLaren’s pockets as they charged and arm and a leg for software to make US F1s legal).
Peugeot 90X breaks cover
Thu, 04 Nov 2010Once a well kept secret in Peugeots Sport factory in Vélizy, near Paris, Peugeots new 2011, codenamed 90X, has been out and about for its first test at the Monza track. While the 90X complies with the new ACO's 2011 regulations, it still requires some considerable amount of work to be done to be ready for 2011. A curvier windscreen and slight change to the nose but the biggest changes are the new fin leading from the cockpit to the rear spoiler, aimed to offer more down force and avoid flipping in the case of a high speed crash.
