Mercruiser 1976 to 1982 Pre-Alpha to Alpha 1 Generation 1 Ring Bellhousing Bell

For more info call 931-589-2352 Central time 7 am to 7 pm!

This is for a 1970's to 1980’s Alpha 1 Mercruiser.

This is not Actual Pictures

These parts are either new or in excellent condition!

This a conversion kit that changes your pre alpha to alpha 1 generation 1 with out pulling the motor. I priced this outfit for my 1977 boat and for the complete kit at a discount marine shop it was over $2000.00!

The Bell and Ring will work on any Alpha 1 Generation 1!

I have seen people advertise on e-bay that you can use their kit that included a Alpha 1 generation 1 gimbal ring, square shaft steering arm and a alpha 1 generation 1 steering shaft (Double Square) and say that it will convert you to Alpha 1 generation 1 but it won’t! It is the old adage that you cant fit a square peg into a round hole!

With this kit is a steering shaft that is square on the bottom and round spline on top. The round spline fits into the round top hole of the gimbal/transom plate.

This is exactly what I used on my 1977 Mercruiser. I did not have to pull the engine to install. (Big Plus) With this kit you use your gimbal/transom plate, your hydraulics, and your rams.

Everything in this sale is in almost like new condition Or New!

This kit actually has the pre alpha bell, you can tell by looking strait at it. The top corners are more rounded where the alpha 1 generation bells are a little more squared. Either type will work but if your using a alpha 1 drive then let me know and I will swap to the newer style.

Included in this sale is,

1)     Bell Housing

2)     Gimbal Ring

3)     2 Studs to attach Bell Housing to Gimbal Ring

4)     Steering Shaft that connects top of gimbal ring up through gimbal plate to steering arm.

5)     Steering arm Square to Round spline type

6)     All nuts and bolts to put unit together

7)     Bottom pin for gimbal ring

8)     2 Plastic caps to cover holes in gimbal plate

9)     A template to drill holes in top part of gimbal/transom plate

Now for the how to part of this. Pull outdrive and bell housing. Then I removed the cotter key on bottom of gimbal plate and heated it up with a torch and drove the pin out. Then I drilled 2 holes in the top part of the gimbal plate with a 1 and 1/8 inch hole saw drill. Using a hammer and a screwdriver I tapped the nut free on the steering shaft through the pre drilled holes. Now these older gimbal ring steering shafts don’t want to fall apart so I cut the old gimbal ring in half with a saws all and removed the bottom half, This allowed me to continue tapping the nut through the pre drilled holes until the top part of the gimbal ring and the steering shaft fell out. While it was out I used a pipe thread tap 1 and 1/8 inch and threaded the holes drilled into the top of the gimbal plate and cleaned up all the metal shavings. Putting it back together was a breeze, everything just fits. You can use pre alpha and alpha 1 generation 1 outdrives with no problem, they all bolt up to this bell housing. If you want you can reuse your bellows and shift cable I got new. It doesn’t hurt to do an alignment but mine was fine.

This is not actual picture but what you get will be as nice or better.

It is in great shape.

As with all my items I sell there is no guarantee and as is but check my feedback I believe in honesty.

If I thought it was junk I would not sell It!

It would cost a little more but I can (If Available) substitute a Alpha 1 Generation 1 Bell Housing for the Pre-Alpha Bell Housing.

I have a lot of other Mercury & Mercruiser items listed.

I buy complete gimbal housings on e-bay all the time. I take them apart and Clean/refurbish. The point I want to get across is that around 80% of the complete gimbal housings have a problem. For instance I received 4 complete gimbal housings last week and out of the 4, 1 had a cracked bell, 1 had a bad ring and 3 of them had bad plates. Let’s face it people sell there junk on e-bay. And most sellers are in it frankly for the money. People advertise the complete gimbal housings as like new, fresh water, bolt and go, nice and tight & excellent condition. Until the unit is taken apart there is no way of knowing what is good or what is bad, And as soon as you start to take it apart it is yours. Paypal will only cover you as long as item has not been touched, as soon as you touch a wrench to the item you accept that item at face value. When you take the item apart and find a bad crack, break or badly corroded part it is to late item is yours. Yes item has to be as described but that is on a visual inspection from the outside. With my items nothing is hidden and you only have to buy the part one time! I hate being ripped off on e-bay with these gimbals so if you decide to buy from someone else here is a couple things to look for on these gimbals. In the picture check and see from a front view if it looks like brown rust color inside the drive shaft bellows this usually means that the unit had a bellows leak and the bell housing or the gimbal plate itself has rotted/deteriorated, also from the back if you see any signs of roughness under what looks like new paint there is a good chance that the seller sprayed it quick to hide the corrosion and that weak spot may go all the way through and sink your boat, of course if the back has not been painted you may see rust or corrosion and that may go all the way through. These are the normal damage area. And there will be a lot of them posted through the spring as people take there bad housings off and try and get as much as they can for them on e-bay.

I have had a lot of questions about outdrives on e-bay. I have bought 5 good outdrives on e-bay that were close to being junk. I would not trust any of them and I ended up selling them for parts. I do not recommend buying outdrives on ebay. As with gimbals people sell there junk on e-bay. There is also a rash of outdrives being listed as alpha 1 generation 1, and in actuality they are pre alpha outdrives and someone has changed the top cap. So unless you trust your seller don't buy outdrives on ebay.

Looks like Australia would be $100 & Canada $25 for shipping.

Brilliance H230

Tue, 22 May 2012

The new Brilliance H230 sedan marks a change in design language from its predecessors such as the H530 and V5 that were accused of being reminiscent of BMWs. The H230's new grille design and inward-angled headlamps combine with a bold front fascia design to create a distinctive C-segment sedan DRG. The interior features a simple black and white theme, with a repeated lozenge motif.
