Shift Cable Installation Assistant Tool

Mercruiser Service Tool

Use to replace the lower shift cable on Mercruiser Alpha One - Alpha One Gen II and Bravo Stern Drives

This is an absolute must have tool for installing a new lower shift cable. Many years ago while in business as a Mercruiser technician and shop owner (now retired) I designed this tool for my own use and my trusted mechanics. If you are a seasoned boat mechanic you know exactly what problems you run into installing a fresh lower shift cable. Some small boats with 4 cylinder engines running the new shift cable thru the transom is not much of a problem, but it still requires a second man outside to move the cable into the engine compartment. Now for other 90% of the boats with V-6 - V-8 engines things get a little harder. It goes from not so bad to a total nightmare, but never easy! Standard procedure is one man outside shoving the cable thru the gimbal housing into the engine compartment while you are inside the boat trying to capture the screw end with a bent coat hanger or welding rod so you can pull a stiff cable 40 degrees to clear the engine bell housing. That is the not so bad scenario. Now add all of the known problems. Engines sunk so low into the compartment changing a spark plug is scary. Lets put that trim pump, battery box or boxes right where you need to be to grab the shift cable. Wait there's more, engine compartment side panels (to provide storage area) mostly screwed in, but I have had many integrated (non removable side panels, what the hell were the hull builders thinking?) engine cover sun decks, built in hull transom compartment for fold back and hide canvas tops. If you are a boat mechanic and read this far you are laughing at my description of installing a simple shift cable, but you know it's all true. Now imagine all of those problems are gone. Imagine all by yourself you will be able to have that new shift cable thru the transom and in your hand on the engine ready for final hookup in 60 seconds. Think about how time you will be saving while charging your customers the same labor hours. Read the information located in the picture section. It will explain the details. For you guy's working on your own boat or your friends boat or do boat repairs part time buy this tool. Save yourself a lot of headaches. Seriously! Trust the professionals. You will not regret it!

Now for a few facts: I hand make every one of these tools by myself in Harper Woods, Michigan (Lake St. Clair)

BMW Group unveils in-car G-force and tea-drinking engine

Tue, 01 Apr 2014

BMW AND Mini have today unveiled pioneering new technologies that produce artificial G-force and even let an engine run on tea leaves. BMW has revealed plans for a system called Force Injection Booster (FIB), which when activated fires artificial gravity at the driver and passenger through the air conditioning vents. But the style-conscious needn’t worry, because the German firm has also patented AirNet, the world’s first in-car hair protection technology.
