USED MERCURY LATE 60S THRU EARLY 80S? 40-65HP LOWER UNIT W PROP CASTING # 1643-4930 SHORT SHAFT READ ALL
THIS IS FOR A GOOD USED MERCURY LOWER UNIT REMOVED FROM A EARLY 70S MODEL 500 MERCURY 50HP. THE POWER HEAD HAD OVER HEATED AS THE IMPELLER WAS WIPED OUT. I DRAINED THE GEAR OIL AND THERE WAS NO SIGN OF WATER IN IT. I PRESSURED CHECKED IT AND IT WAS OKAY. I REMOVED THE PROP TO CHECK FOR FISH LINE AND FOUND NONE. THE PROP SHAFT SEAL HAD WEATHER CHECKING ON IT SO I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE SHIFT SHAFT SEAL ALSO LEAK BY PUSHING AND PULLING ON IT SO I REPLACED THAT SEAL AS WELL. I INSTALLED A NEW WATER PUMP IMPELLER WITH NEW GASKETS AND LUBED THE IMPELLER CUP. THE PROP IS A OLDER STYLE AND IF YOU USE A NEWER STYLE ( ONE WITH TWO LITTLE BRASS PINS) YOU WILL NEED TO USE YOUR PROP BUSHINGS (SPACER) THE PROP MAY HAVE SOME WEAR AND IS A FREEBEE. I THINK THAT ITS A 13 PITCH PROP AS I CAN'T READ THE NUMBERS ON IT. THE BLACK PLASTIC REVERSE ROD CAM IS A LITTLE BEAT UP AND YOU MAY WANT TO USE YOURS IF BETTER SHAPE. ( last picture) THE DRIVE SHAFT LENGTH IS 18 1/2" FROM MOUNTING SURFACE TO DRIVE SHAFT TENSION PIN. SHIFT SHAFT LENGTH IS 1 3/4" FROM THE MOUNTING PLATE. THE CENTER OF THE PROP SHAFT IS 7" FROM THE BOTTOM THE THE CAVITATION PLATE. ( I HAVE SEEN SOME AT 6 1/4" ) PLEASE MEASURE YOURS. THIS IS A SHORT SHAFT. THIS HAS THE 6 SPLINED SHIFT SHAFT. SOME MOTORS TAKE A SQUARE SPLINED SHIFT SHAFT. THIS IS BASICLY A BOLT ON , FILL WITH OIL AND GO. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE SOMETHING APART THEN BUY SOMEONE ELSES AS YOU MAY DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD. ( NO OFFENCE INTENDED) WILL NOT FIT 4 CYLINDER 65HP AND MAY HAVE THE WRONG GEAR RATIO FOR 3 CYLINDER 65HP REQUIRING YOU TO USE A HIGHER PITCH PROP FOR THE SAME PROFORMANCE. UNIT WAS REMOVED FROM A 1973 50HP SHORT SHAFT MOTOR. UNIT TURNS NICE AND SMOOTH SHIPPING WILL BE 40.00 TO THE LOWER 48 STATES AND MORE ELSE WHERE. HAPPY EABYING!!! |
