GM technology chief Tom Stephens to retire

Tom Stephens, GM's vice chairman, chief technology officer and former head of global product operations, will retire on April 1 after a 43-year career with the automaker. His successor will be named later, GM said Sunday. Stephens, 63, has served as GM's chief technology officer--a new position--since Feb.

The Ferrari has its world premiere this week in Maranello Wednesday evening saw gala presentation of the 458 Italia to an invited crowd, and Ferrari had every Ferrari-associated face on display, from Michael Schumacher to Piero Ferrari. It’s the usual glad-handing event, but we do get a few glimpses of the 458 in motion, and it’s a curtain raiser for the proper reveal next week at Frankfurt. Are used car prices about to spiral down?

CAP – the used car price specialists – are warning that used car prices, particularly ’almost’ new car prices, are set to tumble as nearly new cars hit the market. The car market in the UK has proved amazingly resilient to the general malaise in the economy, with new car sales continuing to rise strongly and used cars seemingly immune to big depreciation drops. But CAP – who gauge used car prices for the motor trade – are warning that this could be about to change as the impact of recent trading in new cars is about to start impacting on used car prices, particularly prices for cars less than a year old.
