PowerPak Plus / ProSeries feature includes: - Race proven quality pistons forged from 2618 aluminum alloy (the 2 barrel pistons are made form 4032) - Ring grooves machined for light-weight, low-drag racing ring packs - Asymmetrical valve pockets - Lateral gas ports for improved sealing, generating improved horsepower - Precision milling for additional weight savings - GRAFAL® anti-friction coating on skirts* - Phosphate-coated to reduce micro-welding and pin galling** * MAHLE’s GRAFAL® skirt coating reduces drag, scuffing, friction and cylinder bore wear; reduces piston noise. ** Phosphate coating provides the grey appearance to the MAHLE piston. This dry lubricant coating (not to be confused with a thermal film coating) provides a lubricant film in the pin bores and ring grooves until the oiling system of the engine reaches operating pressure; particularly useful during the initial start-up or break-in of engines to protect against galling and microwelding. Toyota RAV4 EV (2012) - a Toyota/Tesla electric SUV
Tue, 08 May 2012The Toyota RAV4 has been turned into the only all-electric SUV on the market after a heart transplant from Tesla Motors. The RAV4 EV has been given batteries and drivetrain bits from the Silicon Valley start-up to turn Toyota's most popular SUV into an electric-only vehicle with a 100-mile range. Toyota RAV4 EV: how it works A massive 422kg of batteries provide the power for the RAV4 EV, mounted low down in the centre of the vehicle to improve weight distribution. Toyota says that despite the new powertrain, no compromises have been made on passenger space. Two driving modes offer a choice of speed or economy, Normal and Sport. Normal will send the RAV4 from 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 85mph; Sport mode will take you there in 7.0sec and up to 100mph.
Hyundai to eschew electric cars

But we’re not – Hyundai has decided to eschew electric car development. Hyundai has declared that in future they are to concentrate on hybrid car development (which we still feel offers a negative cost/benefit advantage for cheaper cars) and hydrogen fuel cells – of which we approve enormously.
EV maker Coda trims staff
Wed, 12 Dec 2012Not much more could go wrong for electric-car maker Coda, which has struggled to sell its four-door EV in the United States since officially launching it here in March. But Web reports, first seen at www.plugincars.com, say the company laid off 50 employees, or 15 percent of its workforce, last week, mostly in the sales and marketing departments. Efforts by Autoweek to contact Coda have not been successful.
