Cut and shut: Ford builds Mustang on Empire State Building

The iconic Ford Mustang is 50 years old in 2014, and to celebrate Ford will be officially selling it in Europe for the first time ever. But in logistics terms, that’s nothing compared to this stunt: timed to coincide with the 2014 New York Motor Show, Ford has parked a new Mustang convertible on the observation deck of the Empire State Building. Toyota has managed to corner the market in hybrid cars over the last decade after its remarkably prescient decision to focus on ‘Eco’ cars long before the mainstream cottoned on to the changing mood of governments – and car buyers – to the impact cars have on wallets and the environment. We won’t drag out our usual objections to the ceaseless quest for pointless ever-lower CO2 emissions, but we will instead commend the Prius for being a remarkable transport appliance, one which – if driven in a certain manner – can produce remarkable feats of economy and emit pleasingly low levels of the stuff that does real harm – NOx and Particulates.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport Thanks to a friend of Cars UK with a healthy appetite for hypercars (and the bank balance to indulge his lust) we were able to break the news to the world that Bugatti were building the ultimate, 1200 hp Veyron – The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport - back in June. Bugatti confirmed our story in July with news that the Veyron Super Sport had taken the world speed record for a production car with an average speed run of 267.81 mph. When Bugatti announced the Super Sport and the new World Record, we also got pictures of the world record Veyron which will form the basis for an Orange and Carbon World Record Edition of five cars.
