Sergio Scaglietti: 1920-2011

Sergio Scaglietti, famous for creating some of the most beautiful and valuable cars in the world, passed away earlier this week at the age of 91, in his home town of Modena, Italy. The name Scaglietti is synonymous with Ferrari, the moniker still being carried on the 612 flagship model, and it is a pairing that runs deeper than crossbranding and business.
Porsche recalls GT3 for fire risk
Thu, 20 Feb 2014Porsche is telling 2014 911 GT3 owners to park their cars until the company can check them out for engine problems that could cause a fire. Porsche says it will pick the vehicles up and take them to a Porsche Center immediately, and that safety is its immediate concern. Two vehicles in Europe caught fire after engine damage occurred, so Porsche decided to inspect all 785 vehicles delivered worldwide.

Mon, 31 Mar 2014The new Mercedes GLA down a salt mine in Cheshire Trying to find an unusual venue for new car launches is something that taxes the brains of car PR teams, and Mercedes came up with somewhere a little left field for the launch of the new GLA Compact SUV – the UK’s biggest salt mine at Winsford in Cheshire. The Winsford Rock Salt Mines – 130 miles of salt mining tunnels running under Cheshire – are the result of salt mining since the 19th century and now comprise of 130 miles of tunnels some 189 metres below ground, a void beneath the earth of 23 million cubic metres. Still a working salt mine, Winsford is also home to a massive storage facility for, among others, the National Archive, where constant temperatures of 14C make for an ideal storage environment.
