MOOG ball joints have a unique design. Hard wearing, hard working and greasable, they are tailored specifically for each application to support steering which feels smooth and solid

Ball joints are suspension parts which enable the wheels and suspension to move effectively together.

MOOG original equipment (OE) replacement ball joints are created with innovative design and engineering, using premium quality materials to give them unequalled strength.

How is high performance achieved?

The ball-joint housings are forged from a single block of fine-grain alloy steel for superior strength. Powdered-metal gusher bearings, with grease grooves, resist wear better than conventional designs. Our innovative approach allows grease to flow through the bearing to the stud to create a smooth surface that extends service life. The MOOG design also transfers the load to the housing for maximum stability.

Patented pressed-in cover plates keep radial and axial deflection to a minimum, and give the driver a solid steering feel. MOOG uses polychloroprene and polyurethane for ball joint rubber boots — superior compounds that withstand temperature extremes, dirt, water and abrasion. And finally, the ball joint boots are fitted with grease relief valves to prevent contamination and allow debris to be flushed out during service.

Tips for replacing ball joints

The rubber boot is the most important component, as it protects the ball stud. If it’s damaged, the entire ball joint should be replaced. When you replace a ball joint, all of the ball joints should be replaced at once (right, left, upper and lower). This is because they have the same age, mileage and wear.

FACT

Lower-grade steel and/or the wrong heat treatment used by some competitors can lessen the price, but also reduce the lifetime of the part by up to 30%.

Hyundai ix35 Hydrogen FCEV for £300 a month and free fuel – but only in the U.S.

Hyundai Tucson Hydrogen FCEV (pictured) for £300 a month and free fuel – but only in the U.S. It’s very early days for cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells, not least because there’s very little in the way of a refuelling infrastructure in place. But car makers are starting to push FCEVs in a bigger way as production costs fall and performance increases, and Hyundai are at the forefront of this move with the hydrogen-powered ix35 and its US equivalent the Hyundai Tucson.

Alfa Romeo to drop MiTo & Giulietta & go RWD

Sat, 20 Jul 2013

The Alfa 4C (pictured) is the first part of Alfa’s plans to make proper drivers cars The argument has always been made that you’re not a real petrolhead unless you’ve owned an Alfa. But really, it’s quite some time since Alfa made proper petrolhead cars. In recent years Alfa’s focus has been on competing in the mainstream hatch market, with cars like the MiTo and Giulietta, and credible though those cars are, they’re more Fiat than Alfa.

Vauxhall Adam SUV/Crossover on the way

Vauxhall Adam SUV/Crossover on the way based on the Rocks Concept (pictured) The Vauxhall/Opel Adam is now finding its way on to our roads, and it’s a decent – if slightly generic – take on the funky little urban runaround. But GM have big plans for the Adam and want to create a car that can compete on level terms with cars like the MINI and Fiat’s 500. So the Adam comes with plenty of personalisation options and daft names to let younger car buyers create the car they want.
