My father and I refurbished the engine from his 1971 plymouth duster. The engine block is a 340 and has been bored .030 over, has 12.5:1 compression pistons, steel crank 2.02, intake valves 502, 300 comp camshaft, tunnel ram intake with 2x4 bbls rated at 450 cfn each. The engine is also set up for a 250 shot of nitrous. After everything is all said and done it would be classified as a 383 stroker. The engine horsepower is estimated at 500-550, along with a 250 shot will produce 750-800hp the way it is. It can produce more but it depends all on the gasoline you use, nitrous, etc. The shipping will be held responsible to the purchaser. People like Richard Noble – leader of the Bloodhound Project aiming to break the 1000mph land speed record – are made of the same stuff as Spitfire pilots and Biggles, with a gung-ho approach to the inherent dangers and an inability to contemplate failure; British Bulldog Spirit at its best. So it seems almost sad that a proper Boy’s Own adventure like the Bloodhound SSC – a 133,000bhp rocket and jet powered racing car – should bow to trendy PC sensibilities by announcing it’s a ‘Carbon Neutral’ project.

Thu, 21 Jun 2012The recent golf ball catching Guinness world record set by David Coulthard and Jake Shepherd finally turns up on video. In another of those ‘We didn’t know there was a world record for that’ stories, we reported earlier this month that a new Guinness World Record had been set for the furthest golf shot caught in a car. A Mercedes SLS AMG driven by David Coulthard had managed to catch a golf ball driven down the runway at Dunsfold by professional golfer Jake Shepherd.
