Lamborghini Gallardo: Chinese owner takes umbrage

Wed, 16 Mar 2011

Lamborghini Gallardo destroyed in China by disgruntled owner Maybe China doesn’t have any effective consumer rights laws to protect disgruntled consumers. Or maybe the owner of the Lamborghini Gallardo in China, who organised its destruction on China’s ‘National Consumer Day’ to make a point about Lamborghini’s failure to address his problems, had just reached the end of his tether. But whatever the reason, the sight of an almost new Gallardo being destroyed by a team of boiler-suited, sledgehammer-wielding chaps certainly garnered a crowd.

Hyundai arrives in Piccadilly Circus

Thu, 29 Sep 2011

Hyundai arrives in Piccadilly Circus If you want a clear sign of how mainstream Hyundai has become, the news that it’s taken over the iconic billboard display in Piccadilly Circus from Sanyo is as much evidence as you need. Piccadilly Circus is the UK version of Times Square, and the neon signs have been a splash of international colour washing over Eros for a century, during which time there have been just fifty brands showcasing their wares to the 50 million or more passing Londoners – and visitors – every year, not counting the millions more who see the signs on Piccadilly Circus postcards that still wing their way round the world. The new Hyundai spot – which has been the Sanyo space for the last 33 years – is the last of the spaces to rely on neon lights to get its message across.

Video: Chris Bangle delivers “Empowerment: Design without Designers” talk at Creative Mornings/London

Wed, 09 Nov 2011

Chris Bangle – the undisputed front man of car design – needs little introduction, so the prospect of the former BMW Design Director and now founder of Chris Bangle Associates giving a talk in our home town of London was too good to pass up. His presentation (which you can watch in full in the video to the left) touched on his time at BMW, but was more focused on the idea of empowering others to create: "design without you in the middle", as Bangle says. From the story of the co-creation of the staircase in his Italian studio to the idea of encouraging people to think about their culture when designing, his philosophies transcend disciplines.
